Stronger German-British cooperation offers opportunities amid economic headwinds
Both Germany and the United Kingdom are facing a challenging economic outlook. Rising costs and slow growth will continue to weigh on businesses in our countries. Yet, out of these difficulties, new opportunities are emerging: closer political cooperation in Europe is beginning to create the conditions for stronger economic ties.
Recent geopolitical challenges have driven European partners, including Germany and the UK, to work together more closely on foreign policy, security, and defence. This renewed political alignment - which recently also culminated in the Friendship and Bilateral Cooperation (Kensington) Treaty - builds trust, reinforces stability, and provides a foundation for businesses and investors to plan with greater confidence.
Stronger political cooperation can serve as a catalyst for economic growth. By deepening partnerships in areas such as green technologies, energy, artificial intelligence, and defence industries, German-British ties can help accelerate recovery, foster innovation, and strengthen supply chains.
At the same time, today’s environment demands faster decision-making from both governments and businesses - something we all need to urgently work upon. The German-British Chamber of Industry & Commerce remains committed to supporting companies in navigating these changes, helping them seize the opportunities that arise from stronger bilateral cooperation. Therefore, we invite you to take part in our Autumn Survey as your feedback is invaluable in helping us understand how you perceive the current business environment, as well as the challenges and opportunities that lie ahead.
