Following the election of a new government, sweeping changes are expected to the existing tax regime for non-UK domiciled individuals. If enacted as planned, the remittance basis regime will be abolished and replaced by a residence-based system with effect from 6 April 2025. The existing inheritance tax regime also looks likely to transition to residence-based rules. These proposals represent perhaps the most significant change to UK tax policy for foreign domiciliaries in decades and will no doubt materially affect many of the members of the Chamber.

On Monday, 25 November 2024, the specialist tax and private client team at Fieldfisher will be hosting an in-depth, practical discussion of the opportunities for non-UK domiciled individuals in light of the new proposals, led by Private Client Partners Peter Golden and Alice Vink, and Tax Partner Philippe Freund. The discussion will analyse the impact of the changes on individuals as well as offshore trusts and structures; identify scope for existing arrangements to evolve; and provide suggestions on how to plan effectively for the future with the information available at present. Guests will also have the opportunity to network, exchange views and share ideas at a reception hosted at Fieldfisher’s Riverbank House.
