The Kensington Treaty, signed in London on 17 July 2025 by Sir Keir Starmer and Friedrich Merz, is the first comprehensive, legally binding friendship treaty between the UK and Germany post-Brexit, creating a new framework for deep cooperation in defence, security, economy, health and culture, symbolising a renewed strategic partnership beyond the EU. It is an important step to strengthening the relationship between Germany and Great Britain and creates opportunities for dialogue between our two nations, including the creation of an annual Business Forum to boost economic ties, facilitate business dialogue, explore joint projects and identify growth areas, building on our massive trade relationship.

We are therefore delighted to invite you to the first “Germany-UK Government-Business Forum” held in Berlin on 27 April 2026, featuring high-level discussions with industry experts and politicians. We are pleased to welcome the Federal Minister for Economic Affairs and Energy, Katherine Reiche, and The Rt Hon Peter Kyle MP, Secretary of State for Business and Trade and President of the Board of Trade, who will address our guests. We will also be joined by HE Susanne Baumann, German Ambassador to the United Kingdom and HE Andrew Mitchell CMG, British Ambassador to the Federal Republic of Germany.

Key areas of focus for the high-level panel discussions will be “Driving European security and resilience” as well as “Generating growth and innovation through industrial cooperation”.

Following the Germany-UK Government-Business Forum we would be delighted if you could stay for our Evening Reception starting at 18:00 in the Foyer & Atrium of the DIHK, to end the day in a relaxed atmosphere with food and drinks.
